The tablet weaving.

The tablet weaving.

As weaving loom cards. Decorative ribbons, belts ...

The tablet weaving, also called Egyptian weaving loom or tablets, is a system that develops without weaving loom structure. This system is mainly used for narrow work such as belts, ribbons for decorating dresses, ...
The loom comprises:
Warp: set of threads placed in parallel to form the fabric; they define the length of the work.
Weft: set of threads crossed and interwoven with the warp of the fabric form.
Shuttle: serves to wind the weft yarn and pass between the warp threads and then tighten to the same shuttle.
Cards: the essential part of this system of weaving and sets it apart from other looms. They can be any light and comfortable material, the most common are wood, but can be made of hard cardboard, plastic, ... These cards are perforated near each summit and with rounded corners so they do not engage with the threads . The number of holes of each card depends on the complexity of the pattern to choose, the most common of the four.
With these four products, we can practically start knitting. Attaching the end of the warp yarns and subjecting them a fixed point, either on a chair, to a door ..., and the other end, which will hold it at the waist by a belt.
The fabric is produced by turning the cards, both forwards and backwards, "according to the chosen pattern," to lift sets of warp and weft weave. Every turn we make cards, will be accompanied by a step shuttle. With this system, apart from geometric designs and shapes, can also be single letters.
The first piece is called woven with this system comes from the Egyptian 22nd Dynasty (945-745 BC).
